Email Mike Church at MChurchEnt @ aol.com about ordering a CD. Money orders preferred. No credit cards accepted.

Connie Francis Russian CD (5-28-02)
from Roger Turner
The Russian CD is NOT the Russian tracks that Connie WAS to have recorded in 1967. The Russian CD is a Compilation from the Bear Family boxes and must be a nice one.
I wrote to Pat Niglio on info and he said NO. Connie NEVER RECORDED THAT ALBUM IN 1967. I hope this helps everyone. The closest things we have from a Russian POINT OF VIEW are the tracks from the German LP LAS MICH BEI DIR SEIN [Christian]... SING VON BALLALAIKA, SHWARZE AUGEN... etc...
There is an article on this subject in VARIETY Vol 248 pg 47 Oct 4th 1967. 'CONNIE FRANCIS TO CUT LP IN RUSSIAN FOR VOA [Voice of America] DISTRIBUTION.'...If any of you have or know where you can see archives way back from VARIETY that would be interesting. Anyone looked in there nearby public library. ROGER also wondering whether there's out there a TRANSCRIPTION LP of it... [just thinking that VOA did market special Transcription LP's ].
As too the Russian LP it was held up[we don't know if Connie even recorded in Russian] because of ROYALTIES at that time.So it was abanded. The BIG QUESTION IS DID SHE RECORD THE ALBUM???
No. MGM scraped the Russian LP because there were no royalties or profits in the USSR. It is a shame it was never recorded. I doubt very much whether she ever recorded anything in Russian. It was scraped quickly after the planning.
Reading the posts on the German CDs reminds me of what a shame it is that the Russian LP was rejected. I think this could have been a great unusual LP, especially considering the greatness of her German and Yiddish recordings. Those Were The Days would have been a must for the Russian LP, as would Dark Eyes.
>>>VARIETY Vol 248 pg 47 Oct 4th 1967
HEY ALL!!!! Do you realize what Oct 4th is (no, not Oct 2 1957 when Connie recorded Whos Sorry Now)... October 4, 1957 was when Russia launched the world's first satellite Sputnik. So that means the date of that VARIETY magazine was published on the TENTH anniversary of Sputnik (coincidence or planned?). Mike

Ultimate EP Collection (4-17-02)
from Guy Consterdine
Oh, by the way does anybody in Europe have an idea of how to get the EP COLLECTION for a reasonable price (to avoid postage from USA - are there any European sources ??) Christian
Yes there is in England... http://www.hmv.co.uk and http://www.magpiedirect.com, it is actually made in the UK. Last week I noticed there were about six copies in Tower Records, Piccadilly, though I haven't seen them anywhere else. Roger
from http://www.magpiedirect.com
The Ultimate EP Collection: CONNIE FRANCIS : 2 CD The ultimate 2 CD set with 44 page extensive booklet - yes the same format as the best selling Buddy Holly release. When rock 'n' roll exploded across the musical universe in 1955, the vast majority of the exponents were male. The number of successful female singers could be counted on one hand. 1955 saw the first record released by a young American-Italian from Newark by the name of Connie Francis. This was the beginning of a blossoming recording career second to none in terms of female vocalists who launched their careers in the rock 'n' roll era. This EP collection gathers together the many musical strands that make up the Connie Francis songbook. Included are of course the hits, the classics of the 50s & 60s, there are also flipsides, country songs, ballads, Italian and Spanish songs - but above all they are Connie's songs, the incomparable artist and vocalist who became a world star.
From: Graham Heys
Having at last got around to playing the "Ultimate EP Collection" CD's, I have a question for anyone else who has this. Is it my imagination, or is the version of "Too many rules" slightly different to previous versions. Connie's phrasing as she sings the words "Too many rules" just sounds a little bit different to my ears. Help anyone, is this a different take? Alternate mix?
From: Guy Consterdine
I'm glad to read that the new UK-produced 'Ultimate EP Collection' is available in the US and is on its way to various list members. It certainly exists because two evenings ago I was walking down Piccadilly and turned into Tower Records to see if they had it, and I found a stack of 10 of them. Two CDs plus a 44 page glossy booklet that is bound into the CD case. 59 songs: many list members would already have all of these well-known tracks but the product is a beautiful production, designed to feel like a small book. Well worth a place in anyone's collection.
from Roger Turner
Outside of the USA..it can be bought from amazon.co.uk site for 15 pounds..also. Funnily enough its release coincides with her appearance on Larry King...did anyone think of this, Lovely photos, it's a beauty.

I have at last received my copy of the CD The Ultimate EP Collection. What a fabulous item it is, I love the book style format of presnting CD's. The notes and photos are great, there are also a couple of Connie poses that I don't think I have seen before, those on pages 1 & 8. The sound quality is excellent. I do however have one criticism. The tracks "I Hear You Knocking", "Gonna Git That Man", "Second Hand Love" and "Jealous Heart" are not the original tracks that were released as stated on the following EP's.
UK MGM EP 775 WHAT KIND OF FOOL AM I? UK MGM EP 792 CONNIE FRANCIS SWEDEN MGM EPD 111 TUNNA SKIVOR There is one other track which confuses me and that is "La Paloma (The Little Dove)" - FRENCH MGM 63021 CONNIE FRANCIS. The track on the CD is the Spanish version "Tu Amor". From my recollection of my original Connie collection is that the track on that EP was the English version "Your Love" I am also under the impression that this was a German released EP and not a French one. Richard, Roger or anyone can you confirm this for me? As I stated before IMO this is a fabulous release and I shall be writing to SEE FOR MILES RECORDS congratulating them for releasing such a fine product and begging them to release more Connie material in the future.

Lipstick and Powder (4-14-02)
from Steve W.
Hello all:
Well, my income tax check did not arrive in the mail today, BUT I did received the 3-cd set "Connie Francis: Lipstock and Powder" from the German company JPC (http://www.jpc.de). It arrived in 12 days from Germany in perfect condition.
I'm playing them in the "shuffle" mode now so I have not yet listened to the entirety, but so far, I can tell you the audio quality is EXCELLENT. For example, "Carolina Moon" (a sentimental favorite of mine) is probably the best copy I have.
The set seems to cull from her MGM stuff *and* the MALACO sessions; there are at least TWO cut from "Connie Sings Buddy"---must be the UK pressing because I can hear Connie!
The price is EUR 34,88 or DEM 68,22; won't know until my credit card is billed what it will be in USD. But remember, the price is for THREE CDs, and that includes international postage.

"My friends across Europe have been emailing me frantically this week but nobody seems to know about this release. It does sound like a European release and my bet is that it's some sort of semi-official cd. My friend Lucas from the Netherlands told me that The Olympia Theatre in Paris used to record opening nights of every show that was ever there and so we're wondering if that is the source."
CDNOW.COM is listing a CD titled Live In Paris by Connie Francis. It is listed under imports I am ordering mine right now. Charlie

I ordered my copy, also. But it seems it's on back order with no due date. Hope they don't discontinue it before we even get a copy!

CD Universe is selling it for $8.26 and I'm concerned for all of you who have ordered LIVE IN PARIS as to my knowledge (and in repetition from a previous post) such a performance never took place.
