Connie at American Music Theatre, Lancaster, PA
February 13, 2011
from Terry Murtaugh:
The theme song for this concert was not one of Connies hits...but the Abba song: Super Trouper! Connie performed with amazing style, charm, and vocal talent despite suffering from laryngitis, sinus trouble, and the extremely dry, winter PA air. Connie explained her situation at the start of the concert: when she left her home in Florida it was 82 degrees...and when she landed in Philly it was 28 degrees! Her head just did not like the sudden change in climate.
Connie then explained to the usual packed house that she was afraid they would be more disappointed if she had cancelled the concert than if she did her best to perform despite the laryngitis. The resounding cheer from the audience was clear: Connie had made the right choice!
The concert song list was expansive despite the fact that Connie had to limit her singing. It included: Im So Exited; Unchain My Heart, You Dont Know Me [this song sounded terrific-the best ever!], the Hits medley, Italian medley, If I Never Sing Another Song and another perfect closing with God Bless America. Some new clips from Connies many appearances on the Ed Sullivan show were brilliant... but she brought down the house telling stories about her so-called romances with Adam Faith and Peter Krauss in Europe.
One more note: I was reminded that this was the first time many of her long-time fans had the opportunity to see Connie in person. (I tend to forget that not everyone has shared my good luck to have attended many Connie concerts.) Those I talked to were thrilled to have finally seen her in person, and as one fan said: I saw Connie Francis sing Where the Boys Are in person; Im going home one happy camper!
