Connie at Las Vegas Hilton
May 21 -- 23, 2010
Review by website editor:
Maggi Albisani (impersonating Connie) and Tim Dunn (impersonating Dionne) did the opening act where they exchanged comments of each other's song. Some people actually thought they were the real Connie and Dionne. See Maggi Albisani page for additional info.
May 22 concert was another sensational success, second night built upon success of Friday's concert. Connie really belted out a performance this night. Also featured was Connie's boyfriend Tony Ferretti gave a short performance as Tom Jones, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Ray Charles, and Frank Sinatra during the 15 minute break between Dionne's and Connie's shows.
Photos:
Friday show began with Maggi Albisani as Connie and Tim Dunn as Dionne (yes, the best impersonator for Dionne Warwick is man). They exchanged comments about each others songs. They were not on Saturday show, don't know about Sunday (I left Sunday to see Jane Russell in SF).
I would say Connie did good on Friday but seated on far right next to stage I could not hear Connie strongly over the music but she definitely went on with the show. Connie began with I'm So Excited, followed with Unchain My Heart, then monologue, hits medley, Italian Favs, etc. ending with God Bless America. I heard she hasn't sang Sinatra songs for some time, I like for her to them as I think these are her greatest musical strengths and such songs, along with Gershwin/Porter standards are what made me a CF fan. Connie put out more effort on God Bless America for a good closing of Friday's show.
The Meet and Greet was "fast" as they line up everyone in a single row to go backstage, examine tickets to see them marked as M&G, then issue a Hilton Backstage Pass. People would then pose with Connie and Dionne, hotel staff photog takes the shot then the people would leave to get their prints later. No time for autographs or chit-chat. However, I gave both Connie and Dionne each a book of San Jose historical buildings as both have sang the Hal David song of my hometown (these were the only SJ books I could find at bookstore). I also gave Connie and 45 print of volume two of Guy Consterdine articles (and also vol. 1 given in 2007, in case she lost it). Connie went to her room shortly after.
Now comes saturday: I may have missed part of Dionne's show but obviously none of Connie's. They needed about 15 min between these shows to move Dionne's band setup and replace with Connie's band. During this time (on Sat), Connie's boyfriend Tony Ferretti did a medley/impersonation of Tom Jones, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Ray Charles, and Frank Sinatra. I've seen pictures of Tony and figured he must be an Italian crooner, this performance proved he really is.
For the show, Connie was definitely more energenic this night, entered the stage with her "Lady Gaga" wrap. This night I was front center next to Paulette and Fran (they always have front seats). Sound was better, Connie was stronger, more into it, and being so close I was able to absorb more of the show. You have to be there to feel it, it is like you know what is happening but it is difficult to describe. I felt Connie delivered more emotions of the songs to her audience.
Friday night concert was off to a late start (scheduled at 7:30, started at 8). I was late Saturday show (I thought they'll start at 8 though tickets say 7:30), got there 7:50 part way through Dionne show.
Thanks to Arlene for backstage pass, I didn't go to photo op (CF passes did not allow for that), so I proceeded to room with the Connie gang. Met various fans then later met Connie and chatted with her a bit. After photos and autographs back stage, Connie, Tony and others spent some time at the casino (I usually see her go back to the room after a show).
I met Maggi Albisani on Thursday (haven't seen her in five years, didn't have a contact either) so that was good (she is really sexy, has poofy hair, lots of makeup). I was able to FTP updates to a website I made.
Gots lots more photos, will post later.
And.... Connie is featured on a special collectors edition on OMG magazine, view online at http://omgmag.com/web/?page_id=18, it was being given away for free at a gathering for Connie's staff (a different room from backstage on Friday night). I spoke briefly with one of OMG staff, he said go online to request an issue. http://omgmag.com I didn't see any on Saturday, don't know about Sunday.

Review by Don Del Bello:
The day started with rehearsal. The group was there for awhile chatting, having fun catching up with each other since the last show, etc, listening to the orch. rehearse. I got to meet the delightful Jenna Esposito. She's so cool, smart, and pretty too. It was exciting, just to hear the music being played and rehearsed. And, this was a really great orchestra. Right on mark. Then, word came that it was going to be a closed rehearsal, soooooooo, we went to drink wine and have dinner!
Excitement grew as the time approached. At 3pm, I had asked the box office how seats were selling. Only 108 seats left before sell out! At showtime, just before her entrance, I noticed only a few empty seats.
Lights Dimmed, Drum Roll, and then that Famous Fabulous Orchestral Collection of Connie's Music!
This intro ALWAYS gets to me! Then out comes our Diva! Strutting out in a black pants ensemble, black leather pants! (don't get me started!) and a sparkly top. LOTS of diamonds and rhinestones. Rings, bracelets, and necklace. And her beauty, I've already talked about.
She started out with the recent usual, "I'm So Excited." Even though I don't like this song, I'd rather have "Let Me Try Again," it was wonderful, better than I've heard it in a long time. She had great fun with it, ended it, played with the audience, said hello, "Where am I, Oh Yeah, NEW JERSEY." Crowd went wild, and then a new line! "I'm sorry to tell you, if you came to see Lady GAGA, you've come to the WRONG theater. The crowd went nuts! So funny.
Connie changed up the songs a lot for this show. She did NOT do "Follow the Boys" (a great disappointment to me), "Brother Can You Spare...," "Al Di La," "La Via Rose," the Sinatra salute or the Garland salute, and others, BUT, she put in "You Don't Know Me,", new and wonderfully done, and "Old Time Rock and Roll." WOW, high energy, lots of ad lib and famous rock and rollers names mentioned during the song. She used the teleprompter to say all the names she wanted to include in this song. It was an incredible high point of the show.
Her voice was so strong that I realized that even the songs that are tough for her now a days, to sound like the old days, ie: "Whose Sorry Now" and "Mama", were the best, most strongly sung that I've heard her in years! WSN brought tears! At times, she was better and stronger than at the Diplomat in 1989!!!!!!!!!!!!
Connie ended the first act, of course, with "Where The Boys Are." And it too was incredible. Strong and powerful. She entered the stage 2nd half in the new red and black shiny pants suit and she was gorgeous! I wanted her to enter in the new Silver gown. I REALLY wanted to see that! The Italian hour was greatly reduced but still great fun. I was so pleased to see her having soooooo much fun. She kept looking down to the first two rows and saw her good friends Karen, Paulette, Fran, Richard, Patrick, Me (I hope), and others, screaming. I kept forgetting I wasn't at the Met. Opera, as I was yelling "BRAVA, BRAVA" after every big song. It did surprise me how often everyone was up on their feet at this show! I was happy to join in. All the usual 2nd half songs were extreme hits and "If I Never Sing..." tore my heart open. And as usual, everyone was on their feet crying singing "God Bless America." The Set List Follows:
Overture
I'm So Excited
Unchain My Heart
You Don't Know me
Bandstand
Whose Sorry Now
Stupid Cupid
Lipstick
Everybody's Somebody's Fool
Among My Souv.
Frankie
My Happiness
Together
VACATION
Where The Boys Are
INTERMISSION
(Italian song, forgot which)
Mama
Malagena
Rock-a-bye My Baby
Exodus-Hava Nagela
Old Time Rock and Roll
If I Never Sing Another Song
God Bless America
It turned out they didn't allow pictures, even tho we tried. I got in trouble with the "Picture Police" so I only got 4 pics of Connie during the show. And I mean these guys and esp. one woman, were SERIOUS. NO PICTURES. I felt I was with the Sicilian Mafia!!! I could have gotten thrown out! But..... I got a lot of rehearsal and after pictures with Connie signing upstairs.
It was truly a GREAT night in my life. One never to forget. Connie was in perfect form.
God Bless Her!

The moment she sang a single note, we all looked at each other in awe -- her voice was strong and more powerful than it has been in a long time! We kept looking, almost in unbelief as that voice was fabulous! Connie was definitely here to SING!!
Later, the show opened with Tony Ferretti, and he was quite enjoyable. He was on for just over 45 minutes.
And then, it was time for Connie! She entered the stage in a lovely flowing gown in shades of silver and gray, looking so gorgeous one's heart nearly stopped. Her voice impeccable, she began with "I'm So Excited" and "Unchain My Heart," all the while very animated and swaying with the music.
At one point shortly thereafter she surprised us with a new addition to the show, singing "You Don't Know Me". I think my heart is still there on the floor from that one!
Honestly, I was so enthralled that I truly can't give you all the titles, but she did the "Bandstand" tribute, "Sway," "Mama," all her biggest hits, with of course "Where The Boys Are' bringing down the house. A tribute to Bobby was also on the bill.
There was a short intermission and Connie returned to the stage in a black and purple pants outfit to finish out the show. Closing with "God Bless America" she had the house on their feet singing along. There had to be at least half a dozen standing ovations throughout the show -- let me tell you my friends: The Legend is not only continuing, SHE IS BACK!!!
After the show Connie was so very gracious, she was in a small room and stayed for over two hours to sign autographs and greet her fans.
If I heard it once, I heard it 100 times: people commenting on the voice!! "I never expected her voice to still have such power" was the quote of the evening from so many fans.
Our Connie was simply incomparable once again.

Orlando was a great success and Connie looked and sounded so Well -- she has been terrific these two outings.
The show opened with Connie doing "Unchain My Heart" and I'm So Excited". The audience loved hearing her "Hits Medley" and naturally went wild when she did "Where The Boys Are." She did her familiar monologue about Bandstand and tribute to Bobby, "Who's Sorry Now", and "Sway" along with a few other songs, titles of which I can't remember.
We had front row seats and the experience was awesome -- being that close to Connie adds a dimension to the enjoyment that was a new thrill -- one we will remember always.
After a brief intermission, Connie came back and did her "Italian Medley", "Malaguana", "Hava Neghlia", "Rock A Bye Your Baby", and adding "La Vie En Rose" which was not on the bill in Coral Springs.
In closing she sang "If I Never Sing Another Song", walked off stage, and then back to sing "God Bless America".
It has been a wonderful time this week seeing Connie at two shows and sharing the sweet memories with Denise and Ghislaine.
We also met two ladies from Belgium who brought Connie some Belgium Chocolates; Hans, John, Alie, and Nels from the group. A wonderful opportunity to meet some of the members we share with here on the group.
I am still "basking in the glow"!!

Review by Michelle May:
The orchestra started and the photos of Connie appeared on the big screen while the crowd clapped and cheered, then our queen arrived on stage looking beautiful in a black long dress with ruffles and her high heels. the crowd went wild and stood and applauded. Connie started with Im So Excited. She followed with Unchain My heart, Bandstand, and Whos sorry Now. The orchestra was a little loud and drowned her out a bit. But she still sounded great. She then sang, Stupid Cupid, Lipstick on your Collar, and Everybodys Somebodys Fool.
She was definitely warming up and starting to sound like the woman we all know and love and you could tell the crowd was loving it. Every once in a while a random person would jump up and clap and people were yelling, I Love You Connie. To finish up the first half, she sang, Among My Souvenirs, Frankie, Follow the boys, and My Happiness. She ended the first half of the show with, Where The Boys Are. Amazing and she got a standing ovation with whistles, screams and shouts.
There was about a 20 minute intermission. The second half started and Connie started her Italian segment which was FLAWLESS. Its like she recharged backstage and came out stronger than ever. Her voice was smooth and beautiful. After the Italian songs, she sang Mama. AMAZING and once again, standing ovation. She then went into Malaguena, and ROCKED IT OUT! It was amazing. She then did her tribute to Frank Sinatra, Dixie Melody, then her Edith Piaf tribute.
After that came my favorite, Exodus. Which was flawless and powerful. She then sang, If I never Sing Another Song. She then said goodnight and went off stage, two seconds later she came back on the the mic and said, I FORGOT TO SING A SONG!!! We all laughed, and she sang, Brother Can You Spare a Dime. The crowd cheered as she went into God Bless America. Standing ovation, Cheers, Whistles, people screaming, I love you Connie! It was a great crowd.
I am so happy to say there was a lot of new footage on the screens behind her. Pictures I had never seen. She told stories I hadnt heard in previous shows and jokes that made the crowd roar with laughter. At one point when she was to climb on the piano, she was having trouble getting up on the steps. She joked that, she hates to admit it, but at 70 she is starting to have problems with her hip. She wound up singing from the stool. She was funnier than ever, sounded completely amazing and the show if you ask me, was a huge success.
People were lining up to meet her after. At about 11:00 pm they told us it would be about another 45 minutes. We still had a LONG drive home and dogs that needed to be tended to, so we found Connies friend and her gave her the dozen roses to give Connie, and we are now thinking of heading to Atlantic City.
Once again Connie, thank you for an amazing, inspiring evening that will make me smile for days to come. I will post my pictures shortly.
Review by Don Del Bello:
After an incredible expanded overture complete with constant video and slideshow showing on the jumbo-tron above the orchestra, Connie made her entrance to thunderous applause and wild screaming and yelling. She confidently walked out, soaking in the love and the first thing we realized was how BEAUTIFUL she was. This is her home territory and Connie glammed it up. Out she came in a beautiful black gown with ruffles down the jacket, low cut, big diamond neckace, diamond rings, those spiked high heels, and the hair in a fancy updo. Wow was she stunning. This is the Connie we all remember. I could only think to compare it to old glamorous Hollywood. Dressed to the nines and perfection in performance. (I was fortunate enough to be invited to her rehearsal, and she was in those high heels ALLLLLL Day!!!!) Connie was happy, confident, and radiant.
The show itself was incredible. The stage looked terrific and white roses on the table. And the orchestra. Wow! It was the best one Ive heard in a long time. They were perfect and very talented. Far better that Easton and Keswick. And... finally a sound system and acoustics that were great. The show was very new with a lot of changes. It was the same BASIC show we all know, but lots of changes. Most notably, the slide show on the jumbo-tron went through the whole show. Photos and video Ive never seen before in the show. It was incredible to see so many pics of her life and career. Musically, she did a wise thing. Out were some of the newer songs that dont work so well for her and in were more of her famous standards the crowd longs to hear. A shorter Sinatra tribute, no Garland tribute, a shorter Italian segment, more oldies, and much more banter and comedy with the audience. I heard some jokes and funny comments I havent heard before. She had a ball with the audience and I laughed so hard several times. She was in her glory, being back home near Newark and all her Jersey crowd all around her. And boy did they respond! She ate it up.
Vocally, she was strong and excellent. She had a slight cold and told the orchestra that afternoon to hold it down, she wasnt in strong voice. By show time, who would have known!! I noticed, she drank a lot of tea and snuck in the lozenges during the show to keep lubricated. Her top notes were incredibly strong. As a singer myself, I wish I could hit the high notes like that when I have a cold!!! Several times she hit the money note and held it and just rattled the chandeliers!!!!!! I think for me, next to her God Bless... at the end, the greatest moment of the night was when she sang Where The Boys Are and the chaos that happened afterward. We all just went crazy, and everyone on their feet screaming. It think even SHE was stunned, by the look on her face. It went on and on. I thought I was at the Metropolitan Opera with all the screaming and the bravas. What an incredible moment. Then intermission. Everyone was buzzing with excitement. We did get a scare when her leg went out stepping up to sit on the piano, but her conductor came to the rescue and she HAD to make us laugh with a comment that at 70, she doesnt need to get up on that piano anymore. Funny, Funny, Priceless! The cutest moment was at the end, she came back out saying she forgot to sing Brother... she told everyone to sit back down!!!!!!!!!!!!! We laughed so hard. And then, the terrific, emotional, God Bless America. This time, people didnt wait to be invited to sing the second time through. They did from the beginning.
After the show, there was chaos with people trying to get backstage, even as the line in the lobby was formed. Finally, I was one of the last to get my things signed, one of which was a picture of my puppy named after her. Hes named Frankie as in her song and a play one her name, Franconero. She signed it to Frankie Franconero, and giggled as we talked about him and the name. As always, gracious and giving of her time and energy, right to the end.
Thank you Connie for another inspirational performance. Thank you for your talent and love. Thank you for the high I am still on. God Bless YOU. And...... I already got my ticket for Bergen PAC, May 2010!!!!!!

Connie Won Us All Over Again was a past newspaper headline shown on the big screen during the show... and it provided a perfect summary to Connies March 22nd concert at the beautiful American Music Theater in Lancaster, PA. Another fabulous entertainment event by Connie Francis is now history... but what was it that won over more than 1500 people who packed the auditorium in Lancaster? Was it the fact that Connie looked gorgeous in her black gown and interacted with the crowd so well with that wonderful self-deprecating humor? Or was it the generous time she gave her fans by signing autographs for hours after the show? Could it have been the terrific orchestra or the engaging video displays with the innumerable highlights of Connies amazing career? No... it was none of these. It was the same thing that has won our hearts for over 50 years: the music that only she can produce. That Connie Francis voice that touches our hearts with its power, emotion, and sincerity thats what won us all over again.
From the first song, Im So Excited to the encore song God Bless America it was another tremendous two hours with the Queen of all female singers-past and present. The hits medley had everyone clapping, topped off by the crowd coming to its feet as Connie sang her signature hit, Where the Boys Are. The Italian medley came after intermission. Fellow fans, I have been going to Connie Francis concerts since my first at the Sahara Hotel in 1966; I have never heard Connie sing Malaguena with more power or energy than she did at this concert... Wow!
Several poignant moments to mention. Connies loyalty and gratitude to Dick Clark her best friend in the business is inspiring. So many entertainers forget that they didnt make it without help. Connie said softly, This ones for you, Dusty, before singing You Dont Have to Say You Love Me. And later Connie remarked that she recently told Nancy Sinatra that her dad was the entertainment phenomenon of the 20th Century. That comment was followed by the song Ill Be Seeing You and a video tribute to Ole Blue Eyes.
What else is left to say... but thanks for another great concert, Miss Connie Francis. We cant wait for the next one so we can get won over again.

Connie performed to a full house, at 2500 it was sold out. She sang to a new arrangement, similar to before but a different overture and her first song was Im So Excited. She was going to sing Follow The Boys but decided at last minute to not sing it, maybe it was difficult this particular night. But her fans were right behind her giving all their support, fans screamed out we love you! Connie obviously performed her hits medley and popular standards Comme Belle a Stagione, Exodus/Havah Negilah, and others. Connie sang Mama wonderfully, she gave it her all on this classic.
For many longtime fans this was their first seeing Connie live. One waited 51 years to get her autograph. A daughter, for a birthday present to her mom, brought her mother (another longtime fan seeing Connie live for the first time) to this concert.
I took some photos with a basic camera, flash turned off so had to get what I could. I didnt get any closeups of Connie as intent was to capture surrounding atmosphere of the event. This was a big show and took a lot of organization of musicians, and other people working lighting and sound system.
During the concert, Connie acknowledged some people in audience including Jimmie Rodgers acknowledged (standing in photo), Connie and Jimmie performed together in 1960s. Connie also said she will visit Dick Clark next day (Sunday).
After the concert, Connie was backstage signing autographs for a small number of selected individuals. During this time a table was setup outside theatre entrance, it was not previously planned as casino wants people to gamble and not wait in line for autographs. However, with considerable number of people waiting for an hour after showtime, Connie proceeded from backstage to this table. She signed and talked to every single person in line, did not leave until last person (which was me as I gave her a few fan letters and thanked her for the wonderful show and time to meet her fans).
Additional comments:
Johnny Guitar*: Theres only one woman in the world: Connie Francis. All the rest are singers.
Shortly before concert, Connie was interviewed by a magazine (which included a number of photos), article is expected to be published later this year. She gave them a full interview and the most honest they ever had, they didnt have to ask questions. Both men from the magazine were thrilled.
I had an opportunity to attend rehearsal that afternoon and talked with some of the people. Casino show staff said this was a fairly straightforward show. They had shows quite disorganized and previous week was a ultimate prize fighter event with a boxing ring in middle of room with a lot of rowdy attendees.
A quick interview with Scottie, Connies backup singer:
Scottie pays most attention to Connie. Important to match with vocals and phrases, need to hear Connies pitch. Need to be in sync with Connie, even if band is not. Lots of team work, else it will be a train wreck. Also true with all studio work.
What is the most exciting of being a singer?
Love the people I work with, enjoy doing all kinds of music. Being on stage is a kick. Since mostly doing studio work, get to share the stage with Connie.
What is the most difficult?
Sometimes the travel, changing planes i.e. Manila doing concert after 24 hours on a plane. This show is a piece of cake (only live three hours away). Everyone thinks being on the road is glamourous (it is not).
Some songs you do background, others you do not.
I cannot hit the notes Connie can on Mama.
What was your dad like, did he mention a lot of stories of working with so many artists i.e. Bobby Darin.
He doesnt say much, he is very humble.
For more of Jimmie Haskell, see http://www.jimmiehaskell.com
Scotties myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/scottiehaskell
Joel Rogers, sound mixer filling in for Don Tittle, explained why Connie brings her own soundman. She trusts the technician, everyone is capable but they dont know the artist. Joel is very familiar with Connie. Steve, of the casino theatre, did much of the detailed setting of the soundboard. Another casino theatre staff member worked the audience soundboard. Joel said this concert is fairly easy without serious problems (he has had is share of technical difficulties in years past). Joel said there are two sound systems, one for stage (Connie, Scottie, orchestra) and the other for the audience. This is why audience sound is not good during rehearsals is because they are concentrating on setting audio for stage, not the audience. Connie needs to hear herself (otherwise it is like singing into a vacuum) and the band. Band needs to hear themselves, Scottie needs to hear herself, the band, and most important Connie (so she can properly phrase with her).
Connie was at rehearsal for a little while, she wants to get the harmony right. The music is natural for Connie, her focus is to give the audience a wonderful show.
Bobby Grauso, the most important musician of all, worked entire rehearsal. He was focused but always ready for showtime, it was rest of orchestra (local hires) that had to get familiar with the show.
This is where Doug Walters, Connies conductor and piano player, organizes rest of orchestra on details of show and last minute changes. A few quotes,
At showtime, Doug plays piano and conducts orchestra at same time.
Connies business manager Mike Church arranged theatre show, hotel, band, sound, video, coordinate with promoters, etc. before concert date. But once on site his job as producer is not finished. He has to tell stage staff when lights are to go on and off, when video is to run, coordinate stage staff how the show is conducted, pass notes to Terry, arrange when Connie comes in and leaves, and several other uncompleted items too numerous to list in this article. You can spot Mike as he moves from one side of the stage to the other, sometimes with a bottle of water so when there is opportunity, he can get a drink of water. A couple occasions he had time to show the new Connie Francis shirt (the white tulle dress from the Copa album), and to chat with the entourage.
It is all quite interesting the combination of so many skilled people as the basis for Connie to be the top performer, a role that requires a powerful stage presentation and to harmonize with a 20-piece orchestra, all done live. There is no lip-syncing, cgi special effects, what you see is all for real.
Some trivia: Allan (from NYC) said many of the gowns Connie wore such as the tulle dress on cover of Copa album (and used for the new shirt) were purchased at Kleins on 14th st in New York. Connies parents were frugal but when it came time to get a dress for Connie to appear on Ed Sullivan Show, they went to Kleins. Media coverage:

I am so happy to report that on this past Sunday night, in Easton, Pa, Connie surpassed any performance she has done in many, many years! She was truly incredible. I was concerned, after the hospitalization in July and doing a long show the night before in Rahway, NJ. I was afraid she might be too tired to be fabulous. But, FABULOUS she was. She was in very strong voice. The chest voice and the upper register was equally as strong and beautiful. When she opened up, the chandelier shook! I dont know what she has been doing for the last year but she better keep doing it. It agrees with her. The entire voice is strong, unwavering and as beautiful as in the days of old. I couldnt believe what I was hearing Sunday night, my eyes filled with tears, and my heart was filled with pride and happiness for her, someone who certainly deserves the triumph after so many tough years. When you look back at her concert schedule, she has done more shows in the past 2 years, at 68 and 69 years of age, than she has in years. Next year is looking just as busy. AND, shes onstage for over 2 hours. WOW! Who among todays talent does that?
Its a new show now and it is incredible. No glitches except the sound, and no memory lapses. Lots of new songs added and ALOT of new video, pictures, and press clippings on the screen. Its the first time she hasnt opened with Let Me Try Again. I missed it, but I understand. Its a new era. Several of the old hits and faves were added that we dont often get to hear, like Frankie and Ill Be Seeing You. The Sinatra tribute was wonderful. Whos Sorry Now" and Where the Boys Are were the strongest and most beautifully sung than I've heard in years. The second half opened with less of the Italian fest we usually get, but that left room for all the added stuff. Thank God she closed with the usual If I Never Sing Another Song and God Bless America and brought the house down. Only disappointment there was the audience. They were in a hurry to leave and she didnt get to take a last bow. On the down side, of course there was the usual problem with the sound system. In both acts, it took 2 songs to get the mic adjusted against the orchestra. Those old theaters are a problem for the massive sound systems they have to bring in.
What a night! I am still on a high. This grand lady is the reason I went on to get a degree in voice and became a singer myself. That's how much she inspired me. I got to tell her that again after the show. (If only I could have achieved 1/1000th of what she has done.) My greatest wish in life is to sit down and chat with her for a half hour!! I am so blessed to have seen (and heard) her again.
And... Ive already got my tickets for Red Bank in April. Thank you Connie. You are loved.

Connie sang Brother Can You Spare A Dime at her show last night. At the end of the song Connie said, speaking of dimes, thank you everyone form spending your dimes to come and see me tonight. A very appropriate song for these economic times. One of my favorites was when Connie sang Ill Be Seeing You in her tribute to Frank Sinatra. She also did an Edith Piaf song which gave me goosebumps.

Staten Island Concert Review by Jan de Gee
April 12, 2008
My son and I started out on April 9th from Dusseldorf Airport in Germany, which is nearer to his and my home than Amsterdam Airport.
Our first surprise in the airplane was that, after having received earphones to listen to radio or TV, when we turned on the radio the first track that was played was one of Connies (Die Liebe ist ein seltsames Spiel). You probably can imagine how surprised we were. My son looked puzzled and asked how this could be possible.
Upon arrival early that night at JFK airport someone called my name and it appeared that in the row next to us (waiting for the immigration procedure) there were our Dutch friends and Connie-fans Alie and Nel and Hans and Joan, who had been travelling by plane from Amsterdam. We knew of course that theyd come too.
The first two days EJ and I spent in Central Park, China Town, Little Italy, Statue of Liberty Island and Ellis Island and probably some other places. In the NY Official Visitors guide Connies concert was announced this way: ... The historic St. George Theatre, the upcoming lineup features evenings with comedian Joy Behar, songwriter Doc McLean en 60s pop darling Connie Francis. The popular songstress performs her greatest hits from the 50s and 60s on one night only.
When the great day arrived - April 12th - Alie, Nel, Hans and Joan came to our hotel and together we went dowtown where after a coffee-break we would meet Pat Niglio. After Pat had arrived and we had greeted him, together we went to the Staten Island Ferry. After having left the boat we went to the theater. I was disappointed that there was no billboard or so announcing Connies show. We got in and waited for Connie to start the rehearsal. When she entered she greeted everybody who went up to meet her whole-heartedly. It appeared that Connie herself and everybody around her knew about our Dutch group. Anyway Pat had informed Connie about it.
Connie didnt rehearse all the song she did in the show, but some of them like "My heart has a mind of its own" and Fever.
During the rehearsal I collected EJs and my concert tickets and spoke briefly to Mike Church. After Connie had left by the end of the afternoon the Dutch connection went out to dine together with Sandra and Pet, two women from New Jersey who are friends of Hans.
We went back for the show at 8 pm. We all had good seats in front of the theater. Unfortunately my photocamera broke down. I was somewhat embarrased about it, but fortunately my son had his camera with him too and he could make some nice shots.
Connie came on stage and the audience went wild. For both parts of the show she wore black. Connie looked very good.
The songs in her show were:
Her own hits (some of them complete, some in a medley): Whos sorry now - Stupid Cupid - Lipstick on your Collar - Frankie - My Happiness - Among my souvenirs - Everybodys somebodys Fool - My heart has a mind of its own - Together - Vacation - Follow the boys - Where The Boys Are - Mama.
She opened the show with Let me try again. Other songs in the show were: You dont have to say you love me - Fever - Unchain My Heart - La Vie En Rose (as a tribute to Edith Piaf) - Old Time Rock and Roll - Exodus/Havah Negilah - Italian medley: Scapricciatiello / Chellu Lla / Luna Caprese - If I Never Sing Another Song - Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody - Malaguena - Ill Be Seeing You and God Bless America. (I hope I mentioned every song she sang).
Connie was in good spirit and in good voice. I personally think she was especially very good at the up-tempo songs and the more theatrical songs. My favorites in the show were:
Unchain my heart - Fever - Mama - Malaguena - Old Time Rock and Roll - La Vie En Rose - Exodus/Havah Negilah, the Italian medley and God Bless America. I was surprised how good her pronunciation of the French was in La Vie En Rose. Connie got several standing ovations. She made the jokes we all know, but also improvised on the occasion. On behalf of the group Alie had wanted to give Connie a bouquet of flowers, but due to a misunderstanding this went wrong and it didnt happen during the show. Connie then remarked that probably someone had given them to Brenda Lee instead.
At the start of the second half of the show her microphone didnt work. She went backstage and shortly after came on again (with a new or fixed one). The showing of Dick Clark announcing Connie and "Whos Sorry Now" in 1958 was without sound and Connie said she wanted to hear his words in her next show, because without Dick she wouldnt have been in showbusiness. When she began singing Where The Boys Are the clippings from the movie didnt start. I dont see it Connie said and some other remarks. She joked about so many things going wrong that night, but these were all technicalities.
With Connie herself nothing was wrong. She was great. The orchestra was great, too. Connie mentioned the Dutch group in the show and said special thanks to Pat Niglio for his help with her foreign language songs.
After her very moving God Bless America (everyone stood up and sang with her) and the standing ovation people wanted to see her of course, but it all was quite chaotic. After a while Connie came out to the lobby and fortunately she herself remained very relaxed. Friendly, smiling, laughing, talking all the time. I must also say that Terry Hall was very very friendly towards the Dutch group. I lingered around for a while.
My son has a beautiful picture of Connie which she especially autographed for him. (I have one too of course).
Hans and Alie had made a very special (not-for-sale) book for Connie, about Connie in the Netherlands. Hans has shown it to me before he presented it to Connie and it is a very beautiful item. Hans and Alie did a great job and Connie is very pleased with it.
By midnight we left with our memories and together with Pat Niglio we went to the Staten Island Ferry to return to Manhattan.
Pat and my son talked with each other a lot in the Brazilian/Portuguese language, so I dont know what secrets they share now (My son lived and worked for three years in Brazil).
It has been a very memorable night. This has been my very first live Connie concert ever, since I became a fan in 1960!
Monday night, April 14th, the Dutch connection (Alie, Nel, Hans, Joan, EJ and me) went to Little Italy for a farewell dinner and we had a wonderful night together. The four of them left NY one day earlier than my son and me.
This special day of April 12th, 2008, will remain among my most precious souvenirs!
Staten Island Concert Review by Edward Sarosi

What an evening, what a happening, what an excitement, what a miracle! My biggest dream became reality. Unbelievable, unforgettable!! Im just a guy from the Netherlands. For my 60th. birthday I got an incredible birthday present from my partner and my young nephew. A one week holiday to New York, including a Connie Francis concert. Wow!! Isnt that more than a wish come true?
Ive been a big fan of Connies since my youth (since 1958). The first time I saw Connie live was in 1996 in London. She was very great then, but now, april 12 th. 2008 in the St. George Theatre she was even greater, better, looked more beautiful, sounded much better and her appearance was so touchy. She even touched the heart of my young nephew of 25, a heavy metal fan. No other entertainer, male or female could do that ever.
She was so pretty, very slim and her charisma and powerful voice shook the audience. That really was Top entertainment. So classy!! Beside her own big hits like Whos Sorry Now, Stupid Cupid, Where The Boys Are, Lipstick On Your Collar, Everys Somebodys Fool, etc. She sang also her other big hits like Follow The Boys, Frankie, My heart Has A Mind Of Its Own, Hava Nagila, Malaguena, Mamma, Luna Caprese. She started with Let Me Try Again and ended with If I Never Sing Another Song". She returned once again to sing God bless America and the whole audience stood up and sang along with Connie as loud as possible.
Me myself, although Im not American I couldnt control my tears. I got the same emotions when Connie sang Mamma on a totally dark stage with only a spotlight on her and when she sang Hava Nagila with so much feeling. It was like she was singing straight to my jewish grand parents. She sang more great songs, like Unchain my heart and Fever. Not even Ray Charles or Peggy Lee sang those songs so touchy.
The show consisted of two parts. In the first part she sang her greatest hits and Unchain my heart, and Fever. In the second part she sang also in Italian, Jewish, Latin and French (La Vie En Rose), Rock-a-bye Your Baby and more. In her first appearance she wore black pants and a nice black blouse and in the second she wore a beautiful black evening gown with a bare back.
After the fantastic show the fans had the chance to speak to Connie, make pictures with her and ask for her signature. That moment, that possibility was to us even more then winning a lottery. After being a big fan of Connies for 50 years finally I was allowed to sit next to Connie, to speak to her and ask her for her signature.
After all this I got a warm hug and a kiss from Connie. I wish I shouldnt have to wash my cheek ever again.
Connie, thank you so very, very much for the unforgettable evening and for being in my live. Ill never forget you. Youre really a great star. It was very nice too to make a personal acquaintance to Pat Niglio. Hes also a very friendly person.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to my partner and my nephew for my wonderful birthday present and thank you again Connie Francis and Pat Niglio.
Greetings and warmest regards from Amsterdam (Holland),
Edward Sarosi

Connies Coral Springs Show
Coral Springs Concert Review by Linda Torrance
March 15, 2008
This was my first time to ever see her perform and then meet her in person and get her autograph. The show was much more than I expected and to see her actually perform was wonderful. I especially loved her new songs and the energy that she showed on stage and the way she speaks to her audience. She had them eating out of her hands and rightfully so! I especially loved, Unchained Melody and she looked like she had a great time singing it. Their is only one Connie and Im so glad that I finally got to see her sing, with that beautiful sweet voice that she has. I can see that everyone enjoyed it as well as I did. The reception after was also very nice for her to put on for some of us and I was blessed and happy to be there. To watch all the love that everyone showed her and her showing hers in return, showed me what a wonderful and genuine person that she was with her fans.
Thanks Connie for a great show!

The new things in the show are great, she really did an awesome job on Unchain my heart WOW... and Fever, gives you one lol.
Oh How WISH could join you all in NY... but would not have wanted to miss this time for anything in the world. It is truly the best of my Connie memories to date!
I just wish so much that 2 people who should not be here could have made it. That was the ONLY not-perfect thing about this weekend.
I usually understand her unless loud music is playing. But, I found her to be in great form and spirits last night. She was feeling pretty good, today she was tired. But last night even after the show at the gathering she was in good form. She is ALWAYS so gracious to everyone.
I am very happy you were there and got to see this show... The people going to NY next month are so lucky, the new show is AMAZING! I so wish I could be there too...it was such fun meeting all of my list friends... I hate missing those going to NY... You will enjoy it, and I will be there in spirit.
We all showed up at rehearsal... Mike C, naturally working,(which he does quiet well) So many wonderful people from this group and their partners, or husbands or just alone with the group! Cora, Eric, Fran, Paulette, Glennis,Bren and Jean, I sat and spoke with Bobbys (the drummer) wife, what a sweet woman, I gave her my extra ticket so she was next to me for the show, so we exchanged comments during the show and I thought how wonderful it was to sit next to someone who knew so much history about Connies career) Our girl was BREATHTAKINGLY AWESOME, not only the way she looked, but the way she sounded.
Rehearsal was fun and I took some photos, but in a mad rush to get to the show on time, I forgot my camera and backstage pass! Precious Cora and Jean and I think Eric got some, Terry let me in anyway (Thanks Terry, what a doll).
Connie came in to rehearsal with a lovely off white jeans outfit, she looked awesome with her short wig, the song list was different. That was great, she has added some new material to her show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I brought my bag of things to get her to sign them, but she left after the rehearsal and I only got time to give her the book and the messages. So, I was going take them tonight and have her do them at the party she had after the show, but left that too, so I got nothing signed. I am BUMMED. But tomorrow I will try to catch Terry and see if I can get time to get them done before mama and I leave.
But, Jean and Bren were smart enough to bring theirs, and when Bren gave her our book to sign, she said, OH I LOVE THIS I asked her if she had a chance to look at it. I read the whole thing. So you all need to be happy that you made her such a nice tribute, I explained to her how Gerrit came up with the idea and had it printed and gave her a copy for all of us. Yes all of the notes were inside of the envelope!
Mike C. had the new shirts and Bren, Jean, me, and even my mama got one!
I have got to say this, Connie Francis is 97.5% BACK TONIGHT! She sounded better then I have heard her in years,(live) she had great control and it was outstanding. She got several standing ovations! ALL WELL DESERVED!
She wore two lovely black dresses, When she sang Where the boys are they went crazy, I guess since it was about their area helped! Mama always does it, She did some new jokes and some of the good old ones... even the slide show is different! She added FEVER to the show and OMG, this is PERFECT for her and in her usually funny way she had to add Im turning myself in which naturally made everyone laugh.
Dear Cora was kind enough to take my picture with her and we even got one with my mom, me, Bren and Jean together, as soon as she sends it to me, I will put it up on the photo section. Bren and Jean also took some photos.
Joey was there and boy has he grown up since I last saw him in 1988! He is still cute as ever, I guess I need to say HANDSOME at his age though!

I have yet to recover from the excitement of being at Connies show ~~ the evening was magical from start to finish. From the standing ovation as she entered the stage, Connie had the audience in the palm of her hand.
Her voice was strong and clear, and she looked flawless, changing from one gown to another during a short intermission.
While the show was basically familiar to those of us who have seen her perform, she added a few new songs, changed and expanded the video, and diversified her monologue somewhat.
Receiving standing ovations several times during the performance, Connie brought the house down to the loudest and longest when she sang God Bless America to close. When she did Where The Boys Are there was a roar from the audience that was probably heard back in Jersey!
The show was a sell out, the crowd came to see The Legend, and Connie did not disappoint us!! Truly a night to remember.
This was the first time I have seen Connie perform and she was great!! Interesting to note she has fewer wrinkles than I do at 55! It was such a thrill to see and hear her and to see the audience respond so well. I was wondering, though why it was so difficult to understand her spoken word. Hearing her joke about Fever, i.e., I think Im turning myself on! And comments about marriage, the gist of which was Id be having sex with someone other than myself. Naughty, but VERY funny.

I am sitting in the business center of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Manila. Connies flight home just took off about 40 minutes ago. I am leaving the Philippines myself on a flight tonight at 11:10pm to go to Hawaii for a few days.
The show was amazing! The Araneta Coliseum was pretty full. I would guess there were about 8,000-9,000 people there. She did her normal show, plus songs like Wishing It Were You, Never On Sunday, High Noon, Second Hand Love, and oh I forget them all...LOL. She got a standing ovation at the end, and the crowd begged for her to come back on.
I did take a bunch of pictures of our stay here, including Connie receiving a star on Aranetas walk of fame. I did not get performance shots, as I was busy directing the show. As soon as I get home I will upload pics.

Long line for autographs, Connie met and signed for everyone. |

Show was great, all 1200 seats sold out. There were some problems with Connies microphone and general sound system during rehearsal but virtually all was worked out by showtime. Don Tittle was not there but his son filled in for him (a challenge but he did a good job all things considered).
I arrived earlier in the day to observed the rehearsal and later met with Connie. Connie is planning a tour with Frankie Avalon this year and they will meet in March to work on arrangements. She is still working with Gloria Estefan on the movie about Connie.
Some of the seats up front were dinner tables which had a great meal. View was great for us at the dinner tables. Overall show of the music and Connies performance, her interpretation and interaction with the audience. It is difficult for me to describe so I passed out my CF website cards to people asking for them to send me reviews!
It is always great to see Connie live but I really want others to send me their reviews. She did a wonderful rendition of Frankie (yes, she will do this song while on tour with Avalon). Connie performed the much loved song Mama which the orchestra did not rehearse and they were right on cue with Connie. For many people this was their first time seeing Connie live. A couple fans mentioned how much they liked Connies kindness and how open she is about her past.
After the show Connies staff set up a table for fans to meet and greet. HUGE LONG LINE of all her fans waiting for autographs which Connie signed for everyone.
For sale was a new CF shirt, gray with a great picture of our gal plus the other design by Michael Dardenelle.
And yes, Connie had her hair nice and poofy.
